QUALITY STILL FAR BEHIND THE STANDARDS

Following the natural trend of bigger demand for steam coal in the third quarter of each year, Polish coal producers and traders managed to increase the volume of sales by 300,000 Mt. Still, taking into consideration the forecasts of cold winter and falling prices it surely is not as much as they would wish.

Small decrease in the average quality of coal sold suggests, that the proportion between the coal bought by power producers and the other industrial consumers changed in favor of the first group.

Slowly increasing average gross calorific value of coal traded in Poland is still far from the standards of reference coal on the international markets (ARA, Richards Bay, Newcastle; 23-25 MJ/kg).
