IN JULY PRODUCTION WENT SLIGHTLY DOWN

Last month’s hard coal production reached 5.66m Mt, which was 4.5% less MOM and 7.3% less YOY. In total, in first seven months of 2016 Polish mines produced 40m Mt of coal, which is 1.4% less than in the same period of 2015.

Some people are sounding the alarm of possible “coal gap”, that will need to be filled with Russian import (including Polish MP Zbigniew Gryglas, member of Energy Commission), but just take a look at the data for previous months first:

Przechwytywanie

Since the beginning of 2016 employment in the sector decreased by 4.7k workers and now (July’16) Polish hard coal mining employs 87.4k miners.
