Polish coal started the new year with a huge increase in prices, as they constantly were in the recent year, since the end of 2016. For the first time since 2015, the price of coal bought by energy industry broke the psychological barrier of 10 PLN/GJ.
In January, coal price index of coal sold to power industry (PSCMI1) accounted for 226,76 PLN/Mt, which means it increased by 6,6% MOM, and it was the best result since January two years ago. Coal price marker for industrial consumers (PSCMI2) increased even more, by 5,6% MOM to 289,04 PLN/Mt – similar price levels were last seen in December 2013.
